Professionnal career

After studying in Geneva and obtaining her medical degree in 2001, Doctor Hana Abouzeid trained in ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins University, USA, then at the Jules Gonin Ophthalmic Hospital in Lausanne. After obtaining her Swiss FMH and European EBO specialist title in 2006, she completed her surgical training as Head of Clinic at Jules Gonin Hospital, then returned to the United States for additional training at Harvard Medical and Business. School. In 2010, she was appointed Associate Physician, Teaching and Research Master, Head of the Polyclinic of Jules Gonin Hospital, University of Lausanne. After introducing the technique of femtosecond laser cataract surgery at the Jules-Gonin Ophthalmic Hospital, she was also appointed Head of the Cataract Unit there, which she created in 2012.

Since 2015, she has been practicing in the Private Practice she founded, AZ Ophtalmologie, in Geneva, and is a Referring Physician for Ophthalmic Surgery at Clinique La Prairie, Montreux, on a part-time basis.

In 2019, she obtained the Peter Watson Medal which rewards the best score in the European Glaucoma specialist examination (European Board of Ophthalmology Glaucoma Subspeciality Exam).In January 2020, she was appointed Associate Physician at the HUG and teaches ophthalmology and glaucoma in particular, part-time. Since 2021, she has been an examiner for the federal FMH specialist examination for ophthalmic surgery.

Since 2022, she is a member of the Continuing Education Commission of the Swiss Society of Ophthalmology
